The three areas of the screen#
Pyx keeps a simple layout: a sidebar for navigation, a main area for the current view, and a status bar that tells you what the app is doing.
The sidebar#
The left edge is how you move around. Top to bottom:
- A summary card with your total value, today's change, and a one-month sparkline.
- Pinned: securities and charts you pinned, one click from anywhere.
- Research: the securities you opened most recently.
- An Overview group. The Overview row opens the Overview, and under it sit Holdings, Allocation, Performance, and Notes, your research journal.
- Charts, listing your saved chart workspaces.
- Tags, with your pinned tags, each a named group of securities you own or watch.
- A footer with the Pyx mark, when you last synced, and shortcuts to Activity, Guides, and Settings.
The view you are on stays highlighted.
The main area#
The center of the window is the current view. Every view in the next section renders here.
The status bar#
The thin strip along the bottom edge. Left side: when Pyx last synced. Middle: what the app is doing right now, such as syncing or refreshing prices. The arrow on the right expands a full activity log of recent events, including every import and sync.
The main views and their shortcuts#
Navigation is a two-key sequence: press g, then a letter. The sequences are easy to keep in your fingers because the letter matches the view.
| View | Shortcut | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| Overview | g then o | Total value, metric chips, and a grid of widgets you arrange |
| Holdings | g then h | Every position, filterable, with a drill-down drawer |
| Allocation | g then a | How your money splits by asset class and sector |
| Performance | g then p | Value and return over time against a benchmark |
| Transactions | g then x | The full ledger, filterable and exportable |
| Tags | g then t | Your tag groups and their analytics |
| Notes | Sidebar or CmdK | Markdown research notes linked to your portfolio |
| Chart workspace | CmdN | Free-form technical charting in saved workspaces |
Each view has its own guide. Links at the bottom of this page.
The command palette#
Press CmdK. A search box opens that reaches every page, every action, and every ticker in one place. Type "perf" to jump to Performance, "sync" to run Sync Now, or a ticker symbol to open its chart. It is the fastest way to use Pyx and worth learning on day one. The full guide is at command palette.
Hiding your amounts#
Working in a coffee shop or sharing your screen? Press CmdShiftM, click the eye icon next to Total Value on the Overview, or run Toggle Privacy from the command palette. Every amount in the app is masked, whatever its currency. Percentages and weights stay visible, so the views remain useful without the raw numbers.
To make hidden amounts the default at startup, enable Hide Amounts under Settings > Appearance.
Colors and accessibility#
Green means gain, red means loss, and nothing relies on color alone. Negative values always carry a minus sign and secondary cues, so the app reads correctly with color blindness or a high-contrast theme. Motion is a setting too: animations respect a single toggle and honor the operating system's reduce-motion preference.
Replay the tour#
The first run walks you through the interface. You can bring that guided tour back any time from the command palette, so there is no pressure to memorize anything now.
