What the Holdings page is for#
Holdings is the detailed table of everything you own. Every stock, ETF, fund, bond, and cash position is a row. Open it from the sidebar or press g then h. It is probably the page you will use most, and every control on it can be ignored until you need it.
Grouped or flat#
A toggle at the top changes how rows are arranged:
- Grouped (the default) bundles positions by account, with a subtotal and a cash line per account.
- Flat shows one long list of every position.
Grouped answers "what is in each account?" Flat answers "what are my biggest positions overall?" since it lets you sort the whole portfolio as one list.
The columns#
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Ticker | The symbol, like VTI |
| Name | Full security name |
| Account | Which account holds it (Flat mode) |
| Qty | Shares or units held |
| Price | Current price, live during market hours |
| Mkt Value | Quantity times price |
| Cost Basis | What you paid |
| Day Chg / Day % | Today's move in dollars and percent |
| Gain/Loss / G/L % | Total gain or loss versus what you paid |
| Weight | Percent of your portfolio |
| Trend | A sparkline of the recent price path |
| Source | Where the data came from |
Click any header to sort. Click again to flip direction. Column choice, order, and pinned (sticky) columns are configurable under Settings, Holdings, so wide layouts can keep Ticker frozen on the left.
Stack filters to narrow the list#
Filters combine, so each one you set narrows the result further:
- Accounts: show one or more accounts. Empty means all.
- Type: Equity, ETF, Fixed Income, or Other.
- Weight: minimum and maximum portfolio weight. Typing "5%" works.
- Direction: All, Gainers, or Losers based on today's move.
- Search: part of a ticker or name. Press
/to jump straight to the search box.
If another page hands a filter over (clicking a sector slice on Allocation, for example), a pill shows the active filter with an X to clear it.
Any filter, sort, and layout combination worth keeping can be recalled later. Prices refresh on their own, and the Refresh prices button forces it. A freshness line under the toolbar reports the age of quotes and holdings data.
The drill-down drawer#
Click any row and a detail panel slides in from the right. It is the fastest way to research something you already own:
- The current price and today's change as a colored pill.
- A 52-week range bar showing where today's price sits between the year's low and high.
- A mini chart with pins marking your buys, sells, and dividends. Range switches between 1Y, 5Y, and MAX.
- A company block: sector, market cap, P/E ratio, dividend yield, and a short description.
- A returns strip for YTD, 1Y, and 5Y.
- A lots table and a dividends table, described below.
Close it with Close or Escape. Single-click open is the default; Settings, Holdings can require a double-click or disable the drawer.
The lots table#
A lot is one batch of shares bought at one time. The table lists each batch with its acquisition date, quantity, cost per share, current value, and unrealized gain or loss. A toggle switches the accounting method:
- FIFO: assumes the oldest shares sell first. The default and the most common.
- LIFO: assumes the newest shares sell first.
- Spec-ID: tracks specific chosen lots.
The method changes which shares count as sold, which changes your reported gain. That is a tax concept, not a Pyx invention. Cost basis and lots explains it from zero.
The dividends table#
Income this holding has paid you, headed by a summary like "$2,145.32 received · 18 payments", then each payment with date, amount per share, and total.
Open a holding as a full chart#
The drawer's mini chart is deliberately small. Hold Cmd and click a row to open that security in a full chart workspace with indicators and drawing tools.
Right-click a row and choose Add note to start a research note already linked to that security. The thesis gets written while it is fresh.
Keyboard control#
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
Up / Down | Move between rows |
Enter | Open the drawer |
Escape | Close the drawer |
/ | Focus the search filter |
t | Tag the selected holding |
Vim mode (Settings, Keyboard) adds j/k to move, Enter to open, and c to open the selected security as a chart. See keyboard shortcuts.
Concepts behind this page#
Every gain number in this table is a comparison against cost basis, and the lots table is where basis stops being an average and becomes specific purchases. If FIFO versus LIFO is fuzzy, read cost basis, tax lots, FIFO and LIFO before tax season, not after.
