A journal that knows your portfolio#
Notes is a markdown journal wired into everything else in Pyx. A note can link to securities, accounts, tags, or the whole portfolio, and it pins to your charts on the date you wrote it. The reason you bought something and what the position did afterward end up on the same timeline, which is the whole point: six months from now, "why did I buy this?" has a written answer.
Notes live in the same encrypted database as the rest of your data. Nothing about them syncs anywhere.
Create a note#
- Open Notes in the sidebar and click + New.
- Right-click a holding, a ticker in a chart legend, or a tag, and choose Add note. The draft opens already linked to what you clicked.
- Search a note's title from the command palette to jump back to it.
Each note has a title, a date (or a date range for multi-day notes), a color, an optional body, links, and attachments.
Write in markdown, see it rendered#
The editor is a live preview in the Obsidian style. Formatting markers hide on every line except the one your cursor is on: **bold** reads as bold, [text](url) shows just the text, and a ## heading renders as a heading. Move the cursor onto a line and the raw markdown reappears for editing. The saved note is plain markdown throughout, nothing proprietary.
Editing shortcuts:
| Shortcut | Effect |
|---|---|
| CmdB | Bold the selection |
| CmdI | Italicize the selection |
| CmdShiftX | Strike through the selection |
| CmdK | Wrap the selection as a link |
Lists continue themselves: press Enter inside a bullet, checkbox, numbered, or quoted line and the next line keeps the structure. Press Enter on an empty item to end the list.
Link a note to what it is about#
A note can link to any combination of securities, accounts, tags, and the portfolio itself. The link picker searches your holdings first and then the wider market, so a ticker you do not own yet links just as easily as one you do.
Links are what make notes surface in context:
- A note linked to a security appears with that security, and as a flag on its chart.
- A note linked to a tag appears on the tag's page and pins to the chart of every member security.
- A note linked to an account or the portfolio is there when you review the whole picture.
Notes on your charts#
In the chart workspace, notes render as small flags at their date, in the same events lane as your trades, dividends, earnings, and splits. Hover a flag for the title and body. When several events land on one day they cluster into a single marker. The inspector's Events tab toggles note flags per pane, and the palette has commands to pin a note on a date and to toggle your notes.
Attach links and files#
A note can carry URLs and files. URLs open in your browser when clicked; Pyx never fetches them itself. Files are copied into your local data folder, so the note keeps its own copy even if the original moves. Nothing is uploaded, because there is no server to upload to.
Notes and AI agents#
If you enable AI agent access, the notes capability lets a connected agent read your notes and write new ones. An agent that just walked through your allocation can leave the summary as a note, linked correctly, ready for you to edit. Notes written by an agent are recorded in the audit log as agent activity. The capability is a separate switch, off by default.
